Here at Droylsden Glass, we work out of Audenshaw, so Ashton-under-Lyne is virtually around the corner for us. We recently travelled there for a commercial project, which saw us working on Holden Clough Primary School.
A façade that had definitely seen better days
The fabric of Holden Clough Primary School was outdated and resembled something you’d expect to see from decades gone by. However, when updating its look, the school also wanted to improve upon security and energy-efficiency with low maintenance products that were within their budget – no small ask but one that we’re perfectly capable of answering! So, after we came recommended to this client by another school who told them about our capability to enhance school buildings and competitive prices, they got in touch and we took a short journey down to see them.
‘A’ rated uPVC windows with low e, laminated glass
We fitted a selection of White uPVC windows with ‘A’ rated double glazing and low e, laminated glass. This combination ensured Holden Clough Primary School achieved the outstanding thermal performance they were after. However, low e glass has a special layer that reflects heat back inside. So, classrooms in the school will find it even easier to stay warm during the colder months. As laminated glass is more than four times stronger than standard annealed glass, we ensured for solid security levels too.
However, to ensure they were able to withstand the different wind loadings, we fitted the uPVC windows between aluminium curtain walling extrusions. As aluminium is hardwearing and low maintenance, we ensured for years of hassle-free operation. To replicate the school’s original colour scheme too, the curtain walling was specified in a bespoke finish to a RAL colour, in this case a wonderfully rich Green.
Seamlessly matched commercial aluminium doors that were safe and easy to use
Manufactured from high-quality profiles from Senior Aluminium Systems, we fitted several commercial aluminium doors and insulated panels. For a seamless blend with the curtain walling, they also came in a stunning Green finish. As they feature polyamide thermal breaks, they ensured for even better heat retention in the school too.
The classroom doors we fitted will inevitably see a lot of traffic coming through them. So, it’s essential that they’re able to be used safely without restricting access in anyway. Therefore, we ensured no hands would get trapped in them by fitting anti-finger trap door stiles. We also fitted each door with a low aluminium threshold, so students and teachers could easily move between areas of the school.
“Very pleased with our whole service”
Holden Clough Primary School were very appreciative of our competitive pricing, but what impressed them most was our willingness to spend time with them to discuss ideas and share our expertise to ensure they could make informed decisions. Here’s what the Head Teacher, Mrs Beverley McGowan, had to say:
“Droylsden Glass took care of all the red tape on our behalf. We were very pleased with their whole service.”
